Could a Machine Think?
ABSTRACT: Some believe that, no matter how advanced machines become, they will never truly be able to think and feel. Some insist that to truly be able to think and feel you need more than just a complex physical object, like a robot or a brain You also need a soul, and a soul is something a man-made machine can never possess. Others insist that machines that can think and even feel are in principle possible, and may even become actual in the not too distant future. There’s no magical extra ‘something’ that we possess that any machine must necessarily lack. So what’s the truth? This talk explores some of the key issues and arguments.
